High School Monologue Contest

Official Rules and Guidelines

Updated: February 2008

  1. Be enrolled in grade 9-12 or its equivalent during spring 2008.
  2. Complete and submit an entry form signed by a teacher, advisor, or coach. Deadline for application entry is March 4, 2008.
  3. Submit a non-refundable entry fee of $5 with the completed entry form.
  4. Be in attendance at 1:00 p.m. in the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Hall, 215 W. Michigan Ave., Jackson, MI, on Saturday, March 8, 2008.
  5. If selected as a finalist, appear for the final rounds in the late afternoon of March 8, 2008. Time TBA.
  6. Perform (1) one fully memorized monologue from a Shakespeare play of no more then (2) two minutes duration.
  7. The two (2) winners of the contest shall each receive the following:
    • Cash prize of $100.
    • 4 tickets to the Michigan Shakespeare Festival's 2008 season.
    • A copy of "The Riverside Shakespeare: The Complete Works of Shakespeare." (Retail value: $92)
    • Recognition in the MSF season program and newsletter.
    • A possible invitation to perform as an acting apprentice in the 2008 Festival.
  8. The winners of the Monologue Contest and their teachers agree to allow MSF to use their pictorial likenesses and/or biographical information for publicity purposes as deemed fit by the MSF at no recompense.
